Our celebrity judges on the night will be Katherine Lynch, Mary Black and Brian Keogh.
Katherine has been a member of our judging panel for the last three years and has become a great friend of Ozanam House throughout that time. Katherine is best known for her comedy and starring in the shows ‘Operation Transformation’ and ‘Dancing with the Stars’.
Mary has been a dominant presence in Irish music both at home and abroad for the last 30 years. Mary released her most recent album ‘Mary Black sings Jimmy MacCarthy’ in November last and is currently on tour throughout Ireland playing Dublin’s Vicar St on April 20th and 21st.
Brian began his career on the ballroom dance floor at the tender age of 4. He has represented Ireland for many years competing in numerous international competitions across the world. Brian is a qualified adjudicator and is no stranger to “Come Dancing”.

Our Host on the night will be Brendan Courtney.
Brendan is a well known television presenter and fashion correspondent for RTE and TV3.

Brendan won great acclaim with his recent documentaries ‘We need to talk about Dad’ and ‘This Crowded House’

This week we asked one half of the group if they had any previous experience when it comes to dancing, what are they most nervous about, gossip from the rehearsals and how they describe their partners.
JAMIE
1) Do you have any previous dancing experience?
– No, I have no experience in dancing. That’s if you don’t include dancing in a nightclub haha.
2) What are you most nervous about on the night?
– I can’t say that I am nervous, but then again that may all change on the night.
3) Do you have any funny stories from rehearsals so far?
– Honestly, every rehearsal is funny because half the time I don’t know what I am doing until June tells me to stop and do it her way. I tend to add moves in that are clearly not disco !!
4) Describe your partner in three words?
– Excitable, spirited, strict.
NEISHA
1) Do you have any previous dancing experience?
-I took modern/ballroom dancing as a child but no experience in the last 15 years!
2) What are you most nervous about on the night?
-Honestly, the training video. There’s nothing I hate more than the sound of my own voice!
3) Do you have any funny stories from rehearsals so far?
-The first time Jamie lifted me I screamed so loud (I hate heights!!!)
4) Describe your partner in three words?
-Creative, tenacious, eager
LYNN
1) Do you have any previous dancing experience?
-Neither of us have danced …EVER! And it kinda shows, but we’ll keep trying our best to deliver a Bollywood!
2) What are you most nervous about on the night?
-Joe not turning up and me doing a solo routine, though I’m not quite sure how the lift would work!
3) Do you have any funny stories from rehearsals so far?
-We have discovered neither of us can count to the beat of 8, June may need to cut the track again in to 7’s or 9s! ?
4) Describe your partner in three words?
-Jon Travolta’s Twin
GARY
1) Do you have any previous dancing experience?
-Nothing major. I did a Strictly last year and I’ve done one of two classes of hip-hop.
2) What are you most nervous about on the night?
-Forgetting the routine and messing up on stage.
3) Do you have any funny stories from rehearsals so far?
-Other than how awkward me and Brenda got for our videos. No funny stories. But every class is always a laugh.
4) Describe your partner in three words?
Fun, positive and very, very patient haha
GILLIAN
1) Do you have any previous dancing experience?
I was an Irish Dancer from the age of 4-12 and also performed Jazz & Tap from the age of 10-14. Other than that, terrible moves on Coppers dance floor!
2) What are you most nervous about on the night?
As the dance is really fast paced, I am nervous about missing a step and messing up the rest of the dance. Hopefully we should be rehearsed enough by the 9th!
3) Do you have any funny stories from rehearsals so far?
We have a lot of lifts in the dance, some of which have gone terribly wrong where I land up on the ground! My attempt at doing a cartwheel had both June (our choreographer) and Darryn on the floor laughing. Needless to say we’ve dropped that from our dance routine!
4) Describe your partner in three words.
(Much) Taller than me.
MARIA
1) Do you have any previous dancing experience?
Yes but only in the field of Irish dancing. I danced and competed for 19 years and hung up my dancing shoes in 2016!!
2) What are you most nervous about on the night?
Remembering my steps and being able to really get into the spirit of the Paso Doble, it’s all about the character!
3) Do you have any funny stories from rehearsals so far?
I think our funniest stories come from times when we’re trying to perfect the most difficult parts of the dance, and one swing in particular has drove us to hysterical laughing during our many practices together!
4) Describe your partner in three words.
Funny, kind, smiley!
CHIARA:
1) Do you have any previous dancing experience?
Yes I have previous experience in dancing but I have been dancing for 4 years Lindy Hop.
2) What are you most nervous about on the night?
I am not nervous I am fine ?
3) Do you have any funny stories from rehearsals so far?
Fabrizio is really strict with me when we try the steps
4) Describe your partner in three words.
Strict, lovely and attentive to details
EIMEAR:
1) Do you have any previous dancing experience ?
None at all except a cheesy girls night out on a Sat night when anything goes.
2) What are you most nervous about on the night ?
Completely forgetting the routine when I walk out on stage or the music finishing before we finish, it’s happened!!!
3) Do you have any funny stories from rehearsals so far ?
We have been enjoying every week June is great and we have laughed mostly EXCEPT the free week when we got to come in without June …. absolute carnage we couldn’t get it together each blaming each other’s timing we won’t need a judge on the night if that happens again we will take it into our own hands!!!

BRENDA:
Do you have any previous dancing experience?
Yes, dance has always been a huge passion of mine. I danced ballroom and Latin up until the age of 17. I also have experience in ballet, commercial and contemporary.
What are you most nervous about on the night?
I am most nervous about falling onstage or forgetting the routine half way through!
Do you have any funny stories from rehearsals so far?
None specifically. We are having great craic every week in our lesson. June is a brilliant teacher and great fun to work with too.
Describe your partner in three words.
Gary is hard working, fun and enthusiastic.
JANINA:
Do you have any previous dancing experience?
I first started learning ballroom dancing when I was 14, but had to stop after a year due to moving to another country. I only picked it back up early last year, so I guess you could say I’ve got 2 years of experience in Ballroom and Latin dancing.
What are you most nervous about on the night?
What I’m most nervous about are the other couples, to be honest. I sometimes see them practicing and they all just look so amazing! I’m afraid that I’ll see them on stage and will be so blown away that I’ll lose my confidence and forget my own steps.
Do you have any funny stories from rehearsals so far?
This is a really difficult question. Generally our practice sessions with June are so short that there is very little time for anything except the dancing to happen. Although there was one time when Peter and I had practiced really hard the entire week and we knew the steps perfectly to the music, but when we tried to show our progress to June, everything fell apart and we did so many simple mistakes. It sounds embarrassing, but it was actually just funny trying to explain to June that we did actually know the steps, we just…. well… didn’t do them when we tried to prove it.

PETER:
Do you have any previous dancing experience?
Not really! I started taking some ballroom dance classes just a few weeks before joining Ozanam Come Dancing, so I’m essentially a complete beginner. I’ve really had to learn fast!
What are you most nervous about on the night?
I’m trying to keep a positive outlook on everything, and only think about the positives, and how much fun I’m having. However… Our dance does include a few parts where I lift Janina into the air. The entire routine could fall apart, we could make complete fools of ourselves, but as long as I don’t drop her, I will consider the whole thing a success. So that’s really the only thing I’m worried about – at least that’s what I’m telling myself!
Do you have any funny stories from rehearsals so far?
Maybe a different kind of funny, but there have been plenty of times where I was amazed that we were able to really quickly pick up complicated moves, getting them right after three or four repetitions, but then needed to spend almost our entire lesson practicing basic steps because

CELENE:
Do you have any previous dancing experience?
I did a tap dancing when I was a child, but gave it up 30 years ago! Now I feel old .
What are you most nervous about on the night?
Making a mess of some of the really tricky moves we have, that or falling flat on my face!! Do you have any funny stories from rehearsals so far?
Each rehearsal has been funny as my partner Ronan is great fun!

Mad, Funny, Stylish.
CAITRIONA:
Do you have any previous dancing experience?
No, I have no previous dancing experience. So I am a complete beginner, so for me I have to constantly think of what comes next in the dance because it is not natural for me but I am really enjoying it and I think I might try keep it up after the event.
What are you most nervous about on the night?
I am worried about making a mistake or forgetting a step. I just want to give it my best shot and feel proud after I finish on the stage. I will have my little girl cheering me on in Liberty Hall so I want to make her proud too.
Do you have any funny stories from rehearsals so far?
Yes, for me the main one is getting stuck going underneath Franco’s legs but we just laughed and laughed and that is what it is all about enjoying it along the way.

DEREK:
Do you have any previous dancing experience?
I’m not exactly a national champion like my partner, Maria, but I have…you know….no experience dancing at all.
What are you most nervous about on the night?
Messing up, kicking Maria in the knee, my pants ripping…the usual.
Do you have any funny stories from rehearsals so far?
During a recent practice, Maria kicked a press and her toe started bleeding. She’ll decry a lack of space, but it was a typical violent outburst 🙂

FABRIZIO:
Do you have any previous dancing experience?
Yes, it is being 2 years that I’m enjoying dancing what generally is called swing, but which comprehend different styles.
His origins track back 1920, from Charleston, developed in lindy hop, and in other funny styles and variation, gathered all together under the tree of Jazz dance.
What are you most nervous about on the night?
Mmmm being on the stage will be quite terrifying, but I will try to be as cool as I can, and pretend to be in my leaving room.
Do you have any funny stories from rehearsals so far?
The whole rehearsal it was fun.
