Congratulations to All of Our Dancers

In Ozanam House, we are lucky to work with such incredible people every day. However, the dancers that take part in Ozanam Come Dancing go above and beyond the call of duty. Their tireless work and dedication goes unseen by most until they get to the stage, but is greatly appreciated beyond words by us here at Ozanam House.

Ozanam Come Dancing 2020 was highly successful and that is down mainly to our amazing dancers, their time, enthusiasm, dedication and energy. This will mean that the 2020 Summer Project will be well resourced and this will have a hugely positive impact on the community of the North Inner City. To our Superhero dancers: Thank You One and All!

A HUGE Congratulations to our Ozanam Come Dancing 2020 winners

Holly and Tiarnan danced ‘The Argentine Tango!’

Holly is from Glasnevin and is in her penultimate year of Graduate Entry Medicine at UCD while Tiarnán is a final year graduate medical student at the Royal College of Surgeons and plays inter-county football for Fermanagh.

Congratulations to Holly and Tiarnan again and to all our dancers on the night. You contributed to a wonderful night, but also to so much more, helping to raise so much funding for our Youth programmes in the centre, including our summer projects, that have such a positive impact on so many young people and children in the North-Inner City.

Thank you all so much.

Ozanam Come Dancing 2020 – Raises a staggering €67,000!

Ozanam Come Dancing 2020

THANK YOU all for your support and for helping us to raise an incredible €67,000 resulting in €60,000 towards our youth programmes in the centre.

Massive congratulations to Holly & Tiarnan dancing ‘The Argentine Tango’ – our Ozanam Come Dancing Winners 2020!

The show was held in Liberty Hall on Friday 6th March last. A sell-out crowd of 420 people filled the venue and were entertained by 11 amazing volunteer couples who danced Salsa, the Charleston, Swing, the Jive, Disco, Foxtrot, Argentine Tango and the Paso Doble.

The host for the night was TV presenter, broadcaster & fashion designer, Brendan Courtney who returned for his sixth year as our host. Brendan was joined this year by our wonderful celebrity Judges, comedienne, singer and actress Katherine Lynch; actor and playwright, Thommas Kane Byrne and professional dancer and dance adjudicator, Brian Keogh. All shared their wisdom, insight and humour throughout the evening. The incredibly talented children and young adults from ‘C & N Dance Academy’ in Ballymun provided the entertainment on the night.

Our volunteer dancers came on board from within the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul, the local community and many of our corporate and community partners including CDETB, Danceworld, AIB and Eversheds-Sutherland. A huge thank you goes to all of our 11 couples for their incredible commitment, hard work, fundraising efforts and support. They put on a truly incredible show on the night and amazed everyone with what can be achieved after only 9 weeks of lessons. They really were the stars of the show! Thanks also to our teacher and choreographer June Carr whose guidance and support contributes so much to the success of the event.

A HUGE THANK YOU to all our dancers’ sponsors. Thanks also to the many companies who donated goods and services to the event, and the prizes for our mega raffle prize draw. A total of 58 companies and individuals supported the event in some capacity.

A very special thanks to all of our many incredible volunteer helpers who worked so hard and gave so much of their time throughout the organisation and planning of the show and on the night itself, where 32 volunteers helped to make the show such a success.

This wonderful event allows us to take a moment to celebrate our centre and our organisation, SVP. Everyone associated with the event shows us that by working together, supporting each other and being there to assist those in need, we can truly make a difference in the lives of others. It is a wonderful example of the difference volunteering can make in our communities and society as a whole.

Everyone involved made Ozanam Come Dancing 2020 an incredibly successful evening that will benefit the children and young people of the north inner city so much. Thank You all.

We look forward to seeing you all on the stage next year!

Paso Doble

The Paso Doble was a military march that emulates the movements of a matador for the man and the cape for the woman. It is believed to have come from Southern France and many of the terms relating to the dance are French.

Ballroom Paso Doble dancing is heavily choreographed and is usually performed in competitions and rarely danced socially.

The Argentine Tango was born in the wealthy suburbs of Buenos Aires in the late 19th Century. Typically it has a 2/4 or 4/4 timing.

This dance is a slow, almost walking pace, set-up that is based on passion and feeling the music. Feeling the emotion and dancing at the relevant speed is key to the Tango.
