SVP – Celebrating 180 Years in Ireland

Ozanam House as part of the Saint Vincent de Paul are delighted to celebrate our 180th anniversary.

In 1844, the first SVP Conference, St Michan’s, was established in Dublin and since then, has spread through every one of the 32 counties meeting the needs of those everywhere who seek our help.

Throughout every period of change our members have been a bedrock of support for hundreds of thousands of Irish people. Our 180th anniversary Members Day on 20th April in the Dublin Convention Centre will be an opportunity to celebrate our history in Ireland but also to use the occasion to reflect and renew our commitment as we face into another period of societal change.

Blessed Frederick Ozanam

We take our inspiration from Blessed Frederick Ozanam, one of our principal founders. As a young university student in Paris in 1833, he and six companions set up a ‘Conference of Charity’ visiting poor people, bringing food, clothing, and friendship. They adopted St Vincent de Paul as their patron.
