Three Couples Signed up for Ozanam House Come Dancing Nov 2022

Even this early, we already have 3 couples have have taken the plunge and joined us for this year’s Ozanam Come Dancing. If you think you have what it takes and want to get your dancing shoes on, all that is needed is a 30 minute commitment each week for 9 weeks and the enthusiasm to raise some funds for Ozanam House.

Adult Education Classes Updates July

Adult Education Class Members created art pieces, clothing and different accessories in the past few months.


To round off the year we had a small social event and exhibition, followed by a presentation of certificates ceremony with the participants of the classes.

Ozanam House Come Dancing Nov 2022

Take the plunge and join up to be one of our dancers for Ozanam Come Dancing 2022. It is our ninth annual OCD (apart from the lost covid years!) and it is being held on the 18th of November in Liberty Hall. The wonderful Brendan Courtney will host again this year and we will also have celebrity judges and spectacular half time acts. All we ask is for a 30 minute commitment each week for 9 weeks and the enthusiasm to raise some funds for Ozanam House.

Mens Group Activities in July

The Men’s and Active Retirement Groups are getting active with a busy schedule of excursions planned.
Here is what is planned for the coming week:

On Monday, we are heading off for some 10 pin bowling at ALSAA and having a lunch in Kealys across the road afterwards.

On Wednesday, we are visiting Powerscourt House in Wicklow to enjoy the gardens and have a spot of lunch.

Active Retirement Group News June 2022

The Group has been very busy in the last few months since we have opened up more after the recent restrictions.

Paso Doble

The Paso Doble was a military march that emulates the movements of a matador for the man and the cape for the woman. It is believed to have come from Southern France and many of the terms relating to the dance are French.

Ballroom Paso Doble dancing is heavily choreographed and is usually performed in competitions and rarely danced socially.

Performed on the night by Lorraine and Jimmy to “Espana Cani” by The Harmony Group and DJ Ice.

Argentine Tango

The Argentine Tango was born in the wealthy suburbs of Buenos Aires in the late 19th Century. Typically it has a 2/4 or 4/4 timing.

This dance is a slow, almost walking pace, set-up that is based on passion and feeling the music. Feeling the emotion and dancing at the relevant speed is key to the Tango.

Performed on the night by Holly and Tiarnan to “Asi se baile el Tango” by Veronica Verdier.

American Smooth Foxtrot

American Smooth along with American rhythm are the two forms of ballroom dancing that make-up the American style. It is made up of four dances; the Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot and Viennese Waltz. The dance is influenced by Fred Astaire and Arthur Murray amongst others.

The Foxtrot is a smooth dance and is known for its long, continuous flowing movements across the width and depth of the dance floor. It was developed in the 1910s reached its height in popularity in the 1930s.

Performed on the night by Jessica and John to “I Just Haven’t Met You Yet” by Michael Bublé.

Disco

Disco is a dance that was created from the music and subculture of Disco in the US in the late 60s and early 70s.

This movement was made famous by Donna Summer, the Bee Gees, Gloria Gaynor and a host of others.

Disco dance moves include the Bump, Penguin, the Boogaloo and the Robot.
