Our annual remembrance mass on the 17th of November where we gave thanks to God for the lives of all of our departed loved ones. A special candle was lit in memory of all ARG members who passed away during the past year. Mass said by Fr Michael Casey.
ARG enjoyed a day out at the Fairy House winter festival.
Our Active Retirement Group had amazing Halloween celebrations with some fabulous costumes and a big congratulations to Tom who won a pumpkin carving competition.
We are delighted to have brought on board our new Active Retirement group coordinator; Amy Elbay. Amy is Santry born and bred. She graduated from All Hallows with a B.A in Theology and English Literature with a Postgraduate Certificate in Dementia care from Trinity College. and a Masters in Chaplaincy studies from D.C.U.
In Amy’s words; “I’ve been working in providing activities and pastoral care for older people for the past eight years and have loved every minute of it. I’m really enjoying the role so far and I consider it a privilege to work for such a fantastic organisation.”
After such a long wait, we are delighted that the Active Retirement Group are back in the centre. Over the last few weeks, they took part in their usual activities like bingo and darts with new a few new ones thrown in like a virtual concert as well as trips to the Botanic Gardens and the Henrietta Street Museum.
We are delighted to announce that our Adult Education Classes will be returning on the week of the 4th of October. Our 8-week programmes will start with Arts & Crafts (Wednesday/Thursday 9.30/11.00am), Sewing & Dressmaking (Tuesday/Thursday 6-7pm) and Yoga (Monday 6.15-7.15pm and 7.30-8.30pm).
We will be taking registrations this coming Wednesday the 22th of September here in Ozanam House from 10am.
Last Friday, we had an amazing staff day out. We took a tour of the parks of Dublin and had a lovely meal in the Harbourmaster afterwards. A huge thank you to Lenny Cooke for his insights and craic. Would definitely recommend. We have videos of the staff singing but we’ll spare you that.
We had another successful Summer Sessions this year. Under difficult circumstances, we managed to organise a summer of fun and laughter. This was thanks to our volunteers again and a huge shout out to Aoife and Antoinette without whom this wouldn’t have been possible.

I would like to introduce the new manager of Ozanam House Geraldine O’Driscoll, who has recently taken over the position of manager at Ozanam House from Tony Rock. Geraldine was born and reared and still lives in the North East Inner City. She has worked in the community and voluntary sector on a full-time basis over the past 25 years, having held a variety of roles in both family services and substance misuse services with a major focus on Family Support, including front line service provision, training, programme development and management. Many of those years were spent working in local organisations including LYCS, Dublin Citywide Drugs Crisis Campaign and North Wall CDP then moving to Ballyfermot STAR and finally working with One Family. Geraldine has a BA honours degree in Early Childhood Care and Education and recently completed a MA in Child Family and Community.
